Miles Ryan
He is a dynamic character because in the beginning of the story after his high school sweetheart that he married died he never thought of loving another woman again. But as the story goes on he realizes that he wants to find someone that he can share his life with and that will love and take care of his son, Jonah too. And that is when he meets Sarah Andrews and falls in love with her and helps him move on. He was drawn from Nicholas Sparksâ brother-in-law who is a widower. He is a three-dimensional character.
Sarah Andrews
Sarah is a dynamic character because in the beginning of the story, the author explains why and what happened with Sarahâs divorce. Sarahâs divorce has a devastating impact on her that leaves her feeling awful, worthless, and that everything was her fault. But throughout the book, with the help of Miles, Sarah becomes emotionally stronger and realizes that it wasnât her fault that things didnât work out with her ex-husband. She also feels better about herself and becomes more self-confident by the end of the book. She is a three-dimensional character.
Jonah Ryan
He is a 7-year-old boy and Miles Ryanâs son. The death of his mother affected his grades at school. Other teachers let him fall behind because of what happened but Sarah decided to help him. After spending some time with Sarah he starts to like her and by the end of the novel he already viewed her as something similar to his mom. He is a three-dimensional character.
Brian Andrews
He is the boy who killed Missy Ryan; she stepped in front of his car and he hit her on accident. He has been guilt-ridden for several years and finally comes clean to Miles. He is a three-dimensional character.
Otis Timson
He is the one Miles thinks killed his wife; his suspicions were seemingly resolved upon learning that he was boasting about killing her. He is possibly the one who is trafficking the majority of the drugs in the area. The author probably drew him from the things he sees in society. He is a flat character.
Miss Harkins
She is the old lady in the haunted house Sarah and Miles went to during Halloween. She loves to tell stories about the house she is living in. She is a flat character.
Charlie Curtis
He is a deputy sheriff and also Miles Ryanâs best friend; he is the one who has to make a case against Otis but he canât. He is a three-dimensional character.
