Rosewood Academy's halls weren't just lined with lockers-they were layered with silent rules, whispered rankings, and unspoken tension. If you didn't walk with confidence, you got swallowed up. And Korynn Rhe? She owned her space, even if it was just Day One.
She found her homeroom with ease, slipping into a seat by the window and ignoring the stares. Her black notebook rested on her lap, filled with half-drawn sketches of outfits and lyrics that matched her ever-shifting playlists. The bell hadn't even rung before the students started murmuring around her.
"That's Zac Rhe's sister, right?"
"She looks too cool for this place."
"Did you see her diss Jordan Ray?"
"She actually did? Legend."
Korynn tugged on her headphones and smirked.
Meanwhile, in the next classroom over, Zac leaned back in his seat, earbuds in, spinning a pen between his fingers as the teacher droned on about school expectations. He could hear someone whispering his sister's name behind him.
"She's gonna shake this school up," one guy muttered.
Zac rolled his eyes. He didn't need anyone watching over Korynn-she could handle herself. But he also knew Jordan Ray.
And that worried him.
Korynn froze. She didn't even need to turn-she knew who it was.
He entered late, like he owned the place, his blazer slung over one shoulder, tie loose, and that irritating smirk still living rent-free on his face. And just her luck-he sat in the empty desk right behind her.
Korynn didn't turn around.
Jordan, however, leaned forward just enough to whisper: "Miss me?"
She rolled her eyes and muttered, "Only in my nightmares."
He chuckled. "Ouch. Gonna hold a grudge forever?"
"You're assuming I care enough to hold one," she said flatly.
The teacher cleared her throat. "Mr. Ray, Miss Rhe. Care to share with the class?"
"No, ma'am," Korynn said, sitting back straight.
Jordan just smirked and leaned back, hands behind his head.
Later that day, in the cafeteria, Korynn walked past tables of curious eyes and predictable chatter. She carried her tray and searched for a place to sit. Then, she spotted someone waving her over.
Xavier Scott.
Messy brown curls, soft features, navy-blue hoodie under his blazer. He wasn't loud like the others. In fact, he looked like he didn't belong in a school full of elite egos-and that made her relax just a little.
"You're Korynn, right?" he asked as she sat down.
"Yeah. You are?"
"Xavier. We have history together."
"Cool," she said, picking at her salad. "Thanks for not being weird."
He grinned. "Yet."
She laughed softly. "Okay, maybe a little weird is fine."
They talked easily-about music, city life, weird cafeteria food-and it felt normal. Xavier had a gentle energy. No pressure, no flirting. Just friendly.
Until-
"Mind if I join?" Jordan appeared beside them, tray in hand.
Korynn's smile dropped. "You can try asking."
Jordan didn't wait for a yes. He pulled a chair next to her, nodding casually at Xavier. "You good, man?"
Xavier nodded slowly. "Yeah. I was."
Korynn gave Jordan a sharp look. "Stalking me already?"
"Just curious," Jordan said, popping a grape in his mouth. "Trying to figure out why Zac's little sister walks around like she runs the place."
"Because I do," she shot back.
Jordan grinned. "Fair."
The air tightened. Xavier was clearly uncomfortable, but Korynn stayed calm, sipping her drink like she wasn't wedged between tension and testosterone.
Finally, she stood. "I'm done with lunch. Thanks for the seat, Xavier."
She turned to Jordan. "Enjoy the leftovers."
And just like that, she walked away, head high, heart racing.
From across the room, Zac watched everything from his table with his friends. His jaw tightened as Jordan's eyes followed Korynn out.
"Don't even think about it, Ray," he muttered to himself.
But Jordan was already thinking about it.
