Mistaken Proposal
Elliott (Eli) and Samantha (Sam) are roommates at Gallagher's School for the Elite (really just a fancy way of saying boarding school for the rich). Sam goes home with Eli for winter break, where she meets his lovable family, and a misunderstanding...
To me, this is the best chapter. I also want to thank everybody who took the time to fan me, I have 400, which may not seem like a lot to those who have 4,000, but it means a lot to me, so thank you! Sadly, this story is coming to a close. I think there's like two or three more. Then I might take a break and finish up the next story I plan on posting, but it won't be a long break, I promise! Chapter Ten
“SAM! GET UP!” Eli’s mom yelled down the hall. I sat up, realizing the bed beside me was empty. I found a note from Eli sitting in his place.
Sorry, I had to leave. Something about bad luck if you see your bride to be on the day of the wedding before the wedding? I don’t know. See you at the altar.
Love,
Eli
I smiled, and got out of bed. Kia and my mom ushered me downstairs and gave me some breakfast.
Kia, my mom and Eli’s mom spent the whole morning going my hair and make-up. I glanced at the clock. It was four-thirty, the wedding started at five. I slipped on my dress, and then Kia and my mom went to go check on the guys and find their places downstairs.
“Sam, you are gorgeous,” Eli’s mom said.
“Thank you,” I smiled.
“You and Eli are perfect for each other. I’m honored to be your mother-in-law,” she hugs me with tears in her eyes, “And remember, I’ve always wanted grandkids.” I laughed.
My dad walked in the door.
“Can I talk to my daughter for a moment?” he asks.
“Absolutely,” Eli’s mom smiled, and left the room.
“My baby girl is growing up,” my dad smiled.
“Dad!” I laughed.
“Eli is a great guy, honey. You know, he actually asked me for permission to marry you?” he asks.
“No, when did he do that?”
“Right before you called and told us the news,” he laughed, “Eli said that he already had asked you to marry him, but he wanted to make sure that it was okay with me first.”
“I didn’t know that,” I said softly.
“He’s a good kid, Sam, you’ll be good together,” he said, and walked me downstairs. It was time to marry Eli.
Their words echoed through my mind.
“I’m honored to be your mother-in-law.”
“He’s a good kid, Sam, you’ll be good together.”
“You and Eli are perfect for each other.”
It was then that it truly sunk in what we were doing. Eli and I were lying to the people who loved us. We were going to break their hearts in the future, just to make them happy momentarily.
Then there was the problem that I’d fallen for Eli. Yes, I’d fallen in love with my best friend, my roommate. Would I be able to sit and watch Eli go on a date with another girl while we were still married? Would I be able to divorce Eli and say goodbye to him forever when he’d stolen my heart?
I looked up and saw the pure happiness painted on Eli’s face and my heart broke even more. My dad kissed me on the cheek, and sat down beside my mother.
“You look amazing,” Eli breathed softly. My eyes filled with tears.
“Eli, I can’t do this,” I murmured, as a tear rolled down my face.
“What? Why not?” he asks.
“Eli, I can’t. I can’t lie to them,” I say as more tears fall down my face.
“Then don’t. Marry me for real. Sam, I love you,” he pleads.
“I love you too,” I smile, as more tears fall down my face. He grabs my hand and squeezes it.
Surprisingly enough, our small meltdown had gone fairly unnoticed.
The ceremony flies by fast, with Eli and I repeating our vows almost robotically.
“I now pronounce you Mr. and Mrs. Ford, you may now kiss the bride,” the pastor says, and Eli kisses me.
“I love you, Mrs. Ford,” he smiles.
“I love you, Mr. Ford,” I grin.
The reception goes well, my favorite part being when I smeared the cake in Eli’s face. His kisses tasted like icing after that.
The funniest thing was later, when Eli’s grandmother came up to us.
“I’m so happy I could see you get married, now, it’d be such a shame for you to divorce,” she said.
“Grandma, you knew?” Eli was stunned.
“Well, duh, Eli, I wasn’t born yesterday. You two just needed a little…shove in the right direction. Don’t forget I want lots and lots of great grandchildren,” she smiled.
When the reception ended, Eli and I got in a limo that was taking us to a private cabin up in the mountains. We arrived at the cabin and it was gorgeous. It was the perfect place for a ‘honeymoon’.
We didn’t get a real honeymoon since we had to go back to school in a week. Instead we were spending five days in the amazing cabin and then going back home to pack and go back to school.
“Eli, it’s beautiful,” I breathed.
“You haven’t even seen the inside yet,” he laughed, and pulled me inside.
The inside was even prettier than the outside.
“Eli, I love it,” I smiled.
“Good, cause I was thinking that this summer…,” he grinned.
“I love you,” I kissed him, and he greedily kissed back.
“Wait until you see the bedroom. The view is amazing,” he smiled.
“I think we can check out the view tomorrow, we can do something else in the bedroom,” I kissed him.
“Whoa, really? Wait…are you sure?” he asks.
“I’m married to you, yes I’m sure,” I kissed him.
