"What am I doing here" I muttered under my breath as I stood in front of the gates of golden gate university. I watched as student after student entered.

Of course, I did know why I was here but being here now made me have second thoughts about ever wanting to be here.

I felt very out of place among all the people that walked past me.

Why? well because they were all super rich like diamond-encrusted toilets rich while I was a broken-down toilet that wouldn't even flush poor.

Golden gate university was a school for the rich if you haven't already guessed. The richest of the richest people really. They were the kinds of people where their parents owned large companies or both their parents were famous models or actors. well my mother had to work three jobs and odd jobs in between just to keep a roof over mine and my brother's head. so you see I don't belong here and the only reason I was here was because of a contest I won that got me a free scholarship for the rest of high school and even college.

I sighed as I began walking through the throng of people. As I neared the school I realized how big it really was.

It was at least six stories high. steps led to a big wooden door in the middle. Two huge lions a bronze color were on either side of the door.

The doors were open as floods of people went in. A boy with dark hair was on top of one of the lions yelling giddy up and waving his arms around like crazy. A crowd had gathered and were laughing at him trying to ride the lion.

I smiled to myself glad that not all rich people were uptight. Like the girl I had run into earlier. I shuddered at the thought of her.

The inside of the school was like any other which I had to admit surprised me. I wondered around until I found a door that said office.

I stepped into a medium-sized room that had a reception desk in the center of the room and comfortable looking chairs in front of the desk.

A nice-looking plump woman sat at the desk typing into the computer that sat in front of her. Her hair was pulled into a loose bun and her glasses were at the bridge of her nose. She didn't look up at me until she finished doing whatever she was doing on the computer.

"Yes" she finally asked.

"Umm... I'm a new student here"

"Name"

"Kassandra Miller"

She typed into her computer then raised her eyebrows at me.

"Yes well headmistress Rollins would like to see you in her office"

I nodded and walked down the hallway she had pointed at.

Headmistress Rollins was seated at her desk when I walked in. She quickly got up and offered me her hand.

"Headmistress Rollins and you must be Kassandra"

"Yes"

"I'm very pleased to meet you and congratulations on winning the contest."

"Thank you"

"Well the first thing I would like to discuss is that I hope you like it here and if you have any problems to please come to me."

I nodded

"And the second is that I hope you know what a great privilege and honor it is to be at this school. We are allowed to kick you out of this school if we choose you are not fit to continue and are causing trouble. Understand."

"Of course, it has always been my dream to one day come here" lie I hated rich people because they were all snobby and prissy. They took life for granted and got anything with a snap of a finger.

But it didn't matter; I was going to suck it up finish school and college then take my mother and brother into a nice neighborhood where she wouldn't have to work so much and relax and let me take care of her. That was my one and only goal here.

"Good, then we shouldn't have any problems and by your grades from your last school you seem to be very smart."

"Yes"

She handed me a folder. "This contains your class schedules and your locker combination."

"Oh and your school uniform should also be in there. So if you could do as soon as possible change into it." She added.

"Yes ma'am and thank you"

"Have a good day Kassandra"

I hurried out the door and into the now empty hallways.

Opening the folder I saw it had three pieces of paper.

The first was my schedule, the second was for my locker, and the third was for each teacher to sign.

I quickly located my locker and opened it. It surprised me how easy it opened. The ones at my old school had to be punched and pulled to open. I smiled at that thought.

I pulled out the uniform and the two textbooks that were in the locker.

I changed into the uniform in the bathroom. The uniform was cute in my opinion.

It was a plaid blue and white skirt with knee-length socks. A white shirt with a blue jacket over it.

I of course arrived late to my first class but I was excused since it was my first day.

People kept throwing me ugly looks probably because they knew I was the 'poor girl who experienced a miracle' at being at their school.

Finally, lunch rolled around after three more classes.

The lunchroom was huge; there were tables all over and a big line of people. Lucky for me I got lunch here for free. (Thanks to the scholarship)

As I weaved around people I came to a stop when I saw a boy walking towards me. He ran into a girl, knocking her and her food to the floor. He didn't even glance at her.

I was instantly angry at how someone could do that and not even try to help her.

"Excuse me" I said loud enough for him to hear. He turned back and looked at me.

"Are you talking to me" he said annoyed.

"Yes I am, umm... What's your problem? You just knocked her over and didn't even help her up; the least you could do is say sorry."

"Excuse me what did you just say?"

"I said you're a rude brute who doesn't know how to apologize" I snapped.

"Do you know who I am?" He asked sternly.

"Does it look like I care."

He gave me a disgusted look before he continued "before you go pointing fingers you should know she ran into me."

He looked at the girl still on the floor.

"Right?"

"Y...y...yes"

He smirked "see now shouldn't you apologize for accusing me?"

"There's no way in hell I would ever apologize to you; I don't know why she's scared of you but I'm not so I suggest you get your head out of your ass and watch where you're going." And with that I turned, dumped my lunch still starving and left him with a stunned face behind.

"You just got a one-way ticket to hell" he called after me. I just rolled my eyes still angry with his actions.

As soon as I turned a corner I heard footsteps behind me. I was ready to yell at whoever it was but when I turned around I was caught off guard by who it was.

It was the boy I had seen in the morning trying to ride the lion. He had a wide smile on his face.

"Wow" he said "you're the first person to ever stand up to him."

"Well, he deserved it and more."

"You're definitely in for it now."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Let's just say he can definitely make your life a living hell, I've seen it done before."

"He can go ahead and try."

He smiled again. "I like you I think we're going to get along just fine" he suddenly stated.

I smiled back at the first friend I'd made here.

"I'm Mike by the way"

"Kassandra, Kass for short"

"Alright Kass it is."

He grabbed my hand and pulled me up a flight of stairs.

"Where are we going?"

"Just come on."

We stopped at a rail by the stairs overlooking the commons.

There were four boys there, one of them being the boy I had yelled at.

"What are we doing here" I asked.

"If you're going to go up against him you should at least know who they are."

I gave him a puzzled look. "Up against them?"

"Yes, you just became their new target."

"Great first day here and I already became someone's target."

I put my head in my hands.

"Look" Mike said.

I looked up. "The guy you were going at in the lunchroom is Aden Grey."

I looked at Aden, I mean really looked and that's when I noticed how good-looking he was. Not just him though all his friends. Aden had perfect dark brown hair, and from here his eyes looked blue. He looked really mad. I smiled at that.

"Aden is one of the richest people on earth." Mike began. "His parents own the biggest-known company in the world. "The one to the right is Seth Green, his parents own a large string of hotels and resorts." Seth was really cute in a little brother way, he had black and brown hair and soft brown eyes. From here I could tell he had dimples.

"Next to him is Chris Billings, his mother is a model, and his father is a movie director." Chris had jet black hair and dark brown eyes. "And lastly is Alec Road, his parents are known for their discoveries around the world. They all pretty much grew up together" Alec had soft brown hair and hazel eyes he seemed annoyed by whatever Aden was going on about.

"So I'm up against very snotty rich people?"

"Yeah that's pretty much it."

"Just great, this just gets better and better."

"Don't worry I'm rooting for you; it's time those snobs learned a lesson."

"You know you fit my definition of a snob-" he gave me a hurt look.

"But I was wrong you seem really nice to be helping me."

He didn't respond just looked back at the four guys below us.

I didn't say anything after that. We stayed like that in a comfortable silence until the lunch bell rang for class to begin.
