Taken For The Alpha ✔️
*18+ read at your discretion!* My hands tremble by my sides. "Don't sleep with her..." He steps toward me, his eyes dark. "Why not?" "Whatever you were planning to do to her tonight, do it to me instead," I whisper.
Ayah has always been unremarkable in every way other than in the power she wields. Since she was little she has been able to heal even the most fatal of wounds. Because of this, her father has locked her away, keeping her powers safe from the outside world. That is, until a man appears below her balcony, giving her a glimpse into the freedom she could finally have. However, the moment she starts to trust him, he takes her captive, revealing his identity to be a powerful Alpha who needs her to heal his younger sister. But when the girl's illness becomes impossible for Ayah to heal, she is dragged on a journey beside the Alpha to find an amplifier. On the way she learns their connection goes deeper than their heated attraction, to a soul bond neither can deny.

~Ayah
I groan inwardly, overcome by significant pain in my head.
Everything around me is dark, and my body jostles from side to side, exasperating the pain. It takes me a few moments to realise it's so dark because my eyes are closed, and I've been unconscious.
Slowly, I blink my eyes open.
I'm in a dim carriage, the short curtains drawn over the windows. I immediately brace my hands against the cushioned seats, feeling nauseated by the strange undulations.
Across from me Riley and Blake sit stiffly. Blake looks down at her hands, a blanket draped on her shoulders. Her face is drawn, eyes glazed.
Riley glances up at me, eyes widening when he sees me looking back.
He nudges his sister with his shoulder. "Shit, she's awake."
Blake startles, immediately looking over me. She looks panicked, like something isn't right, and my mind is too hazy to catch on.
"Ayah, are you okay?" She asks anxiously, wringing her hands.
I blink hazily, peering around the space. Why would I be in a carriage? I don't remember needing to go anywhere, although right now, there really isn't much I remember at all.
"What...is going on?" I question, rubbing my face, only to find the space around my right temple is tender.
"You hit your head but you're okay," she rushes to say.
I pause. I hit my head?
Suddenly, everything returns to me in a rush.
There was a ball, for me. I confronted Zaon and told him I think he was my mate, and he walked away. Raven overheard and she almost had me killed, until...
I look at Riley, who watches me warily.
"You fucking hit me," I snap.
Blake attacked Raven and her lackey, and Riley struck me around the head. When I turned and saw him, he had a frightened look in his eye, like he wasn't sure why he was hitting me.
"I'm sorry, I didn't have any other choice," he jumps to say. The colour has drained out of his face — in fact, he looks ready to be sick at our feet.
I groan, bowing my head into my hands. It aches terrible, a sharp pain splitting behind my eyes.
"My head is killing me."
Blake shuffles around in her bag, pulling out a glass bottle with a cork on it.
"Drink this tonic, it might make you feel better." She smiles weakly as I peer at her through my fingers.
Dropping my hands, I glare at the bottle and the dark, foggy liquid inside of it. Something strange is going on, and despite believing Blake is my friend, I don't exactly trust her right now.
"I'm not drinking that." I lean further back.
Her expression drops. "Why not?"
"Your brother hit me." I gesture at a mortified looking Riley.
Right now, they look harmless — as they usually do. I never thought Blake could be capable of attacking someone like that, and Riley...I never thought he would hurt me.
"I didn't want to, but I couldn't think of a way to get you out without anyone noticing," he explains hastily. "We planned this for a different day."
I flinch. Planned?
"Planned what?" I shake my head, confused. "Wait, where are we?"
Leaning over, I yank the curtain away from the window. It's dusk outside, the landscape different to the snowy mountains I've gotten used to. All I see are meadows shrouded in shadow, the horizon warmed by the setting sun.
"We just safely passed out of Zaon's pack yesterday," Blake says.
My mind spins. "Yesterday? How long have I been out?"
She winces. "Two and a half days."
My stomach twists. It hasn't felt like that long, although my body does feel as though it has taken a toll. Everything aches, but especially my head. Plus, there is a gross taste in my mouth.
"Where are we going?"
"It's better you don't know," Riley says, sharing a look with Blake. "Somewhere safe, is all that matters."
I look between them two, feeling as though I've tumbled into another dimension. They are acting like entirely different people.
"Can someone please explain what's going on?" I ask slowly, my frustration growing.
Blake offers me a strange look, like she suspected it wouldn't need explaining. "We're helping you escape from Zaon. Like we promised."
My mouth falls open slightly as I scan both of their faces.
We're running from Zaon? An Alpha? I told Blake and Riley I didn't want to go until I healed Iris, until I fulfilled my end of our deal. Had Zaon decided to turn back on the agreement, I would have thought about taking them up on our offer.
But there is still so much to be done. I mean, Zaon might be my mate...him and I haven't had much of a chance to speak about it.
My blood chills suddenly. Oh Goddess...I don't even want to know his reaction to this now that he is aware of the possibility.
"You can't be serious..."
"We owe you that much." Riley smiles tightly, probably expecting me to be excited or grateful for this.
I clutch my stomach, feeling ill. "No. You're lying."
"Raven tried to kill you, Ayah. And Zaon is trying to force a mate bond you don't want on you." Riley swallows, the thought disturbing him. "We're helping you."
I shake my head, ignoring how much it hurts.
They must have overheard my conversation with Zaon as well. I had no idea when I was making my admission to him, that it would practically be a public declaration.
"But Iris—"
Blake leans forward, resting her hand over mind. "We choose your life over hers."
I snatch my hand away like she burned me. Hurt blooms across her face, but I can't find it in myself to feel bad about it. She has participated in this despite me insisting this wasn't what I wanted.
They decided what was right for me, like everyone in my life has done since I was born. All because of my healing ability.
"No, take me back," I demand. "I can heal her. I have to heal her."
Iris is entirely innocent in this. She deserves to be healed, to be reunited with her brother. It would be wrong to run away now.
"We can't take you back now. Raven might be dead and Zaon was never planning to let you go," Riley insists.
"He was. We signed an agreement."
I've always been sceptical about the agreement, but the way our relationship has developed...it has me convinced he's going to stay true to his word. I don't think he would be so cruel as to keep me prisoner after everything I've been through.
Riley leans forward, bracing his forearms on his thighs. "He knows how special you are, Ayah. His morals won't come before his greed."
"But she's a little girl and she deserves to live. I'm the only one who can save her." I lay my hand on my chest. This is personal now. She's not just another person who needs my magic.
Blake frowns. "At what cost."
I look around anxiously, at the world passing by outside. The longer we sit here and talk, the further we get away from Zaon's manor.
I can only imagine his reaction.
"Take me back. Right now."
"No—"
"Now!" I say louder.
I grab the door handle, half willing to toss myself out onto the road, but it's locked.
Riley grabs my wrist. "Ayah stop."
I pull back from him, anger rising, almost suffocating me. How dare he make this decision for me. How dare they both kidnap and carry me away like they own me.
I might be married to Riley, but that is as far as his duty to me goes.
"I want to go back right now! I can heal her, I want to!" My voice fills the cabin, making Blake wince.
"Calm down," Riley soothes. "We aren't taking you back. We've planned this for weeks now, and we're going through with it."
Weeks?
"Why didn't you ask me? I mean, I told you I wanted to stay." We had the conversation several times. They didn't seem pleased about my decision, but I would never have thought they would do something like this.
Riley sighs. "As your husband, it's my duty to protect you. By staying there, you're in danger."
"But it's my choice. I want to heal Iris." I lean back, folding my arms over my chest. "I trust Zaon."
I'm not sure if I've admitted it to myself before, but saying it feels right. I know Zaon would let me go — he refused to agree that we are mates so he knew he could. He would have sorted out the bond and had his sister healed that night if he didn't want to abide by our agreement.
"That's your mistake, and we won't let you make it," Riley exclaims sternly, his jaw tightening.
I look to my friend. "Come on Blake, you said yourself he's a good Alpha."
"He is, but he won't be a good mate," she murmurs.
"You know, that entire conversation wasn't for the whole world to hear," I snap.
I was being vulnerable, telling Zaon how I was feeling. It's not even confirmed, and yet everyone has decided the possibility is repulsive.
"I couldn't help it. I was tailing you, trying to keep you safe when I heard what you said," she explains. "Being mates with an Alpha is dangerous. Terribly so. You'll never get freedom if you're with him."
I sigh. "You don't know that."
"He won't let you go. He said so himself." She throws her hands up, frustrated by what I'm not seeing. "Now, you're free from him. You can live a normal life."
A normal life? I'm not sure what kind of normal life I can have with Zaon pursuing me. He wants his sister healed, and he won't stop until he gets what he wants, and I can't blame him. I would do the same for someone I loved.
I close my eyes, wavering. "I think I'm going to be sick."
"I mean it, Ayah. We lay low at our safe house for a few months, we change your appearance and your identity and you go free." Riley smiles a little, like the prospect pleases him.
"He told me himself that there isn't anywhere I could go that he wouldn't find me." I massage my side, feeling ill. "Can we stop the carriage, I need to be sick."
His eyes soften. "We'll protect you."
"Stop the carriage!"
Riley huffs out a breath, but mercifully, knocks on the wall of the carriage, indicating to the driver to stop. The carriage slows and Blake unlocks the door, giving me the chance to hurtle outside.
The fresh air is immediately relieving, but not enough to quell my churning stomach.
Unceremoniously, I fall to my knees, throwing up into the grass at the side of the road. I hear Riley and Blake step out, the latter pulling my hair back away from my face while I empty my stomach.
Once I'm done, I sit up, wiping my damp forehead with the back of my hand.
The landscape is beautiful, but barren. When I look back where we came from, there are tall mountains in the distance. Somewhere that way, is Zaon and Iris.
Blake crouches next to me, concern etched into her brow. "Are you okay?"
"She needs medical attention," Riley mutters from the other side of me.
I spit again, wincing at the foul taste in my mouth. I'm sick because Riley struck me so hard in the head. Perhaps they should have considered drugging me instead.
Blake glares up at him. "And where do you suspect we can get that?"
"She's concussed. We need to figure it out."
"You both need to let me go." I look at each of their faces in turn. "Because once Zaon finds you, he's going to kill you."
