Taken For The Alpha ✔️
*18+ read at your discretion!* My hands tremble by my sides. "Don't sleep with her..." He steps toward me, his eyes dark. "Why not?" "Whatever you were planning to do to her tonight, do it to me instead," I whisper.
Ayah has always been unremarkable in every way other than in the power she wields. Since she was little she has been able to heal even the most fatal of wounds. Because of this, her father has locked her away, keeping her powers safe from the outside world. That is, until a man appears below her balcony, giving her a glimpse into the freedom she could finally have. However, the moment she starts to trust him, he takes her captive, revealing his identity to be a powerful Alpha who needs her to heal his younger sister. But when the girl's illness becomes impossible for Ayah to heal, she is dragged on a journey beside the Alpha to find an amplifier. On the way she learns their connection goes deeper than their heated attraction, to a soul bond neither can deny.

I look back the way I came, wondering how far I could get if I ran. Unfortunately, the male standing behind Raven looks hungry for a chase, uncannily light coloured eyes assessing me keenly. I doubt I would make it more than a few steps in the snow before he closed in on me.
"Oh fuck," I breathe.
"Oh fuck is right." Raven's smile grows. She looks manic, unhinged. "Ayah, meet Valk. He's an old friend of mine."
She gestures behind her at the large male. He doesn't wave, he doesn't smile...he doesn't even blink. He just stares at me, gaze boring through my skin.
Whatever he is here for, it's not good.
"What do you want?" I cross my arms over my chest, glaring at them in turn.
Raven is, as usual, looking incredible. It irritates me to no end, how she always looks so effortlessly put together. Her light blonde hair is sleeked back, and her black dress caresses every perfect curve of her body.
"I just want to talk," Raven muses casually. "Vulk here overheard your conversation with my husband."
My blood chills, and not because of the bitter breeze brushing against the back of my neck. My conversation with Zaon was incredibly incriminating, but I didn't think there was a chance anyone would be out in the garden.
The question is, how long did Vulk overhear? How long did he stick around to listen in? Obviously not long enough to hear the end of our conversation, since he reported back to Raven fairly quickly.
"Whatever I said was none of your business."
"You believe my husband is your mate." A dark smile is frozen on her face, hiding the sinister look beneath.
She's infuriated. She doesn't care about Zaon, let alone love him. Yet, she feels like she possesses him, and that's enough to cut down anyone who comes close to him.
I shouldn't have said anything to him... I should have let it go.
"He's not. I was just talking...none of it meant anything," I insist. "There's no evidence him and I are mates. This has just been a difficult time and I wanted to believe. That way I could heal Iris.
Unfortunately, I don't think me healing Iris is enough for her to spare me. She couldn't care less about that little girl.
"Whatever. He clearly believes, as you do, that you two are mates." She rolls her eyes. "He's only balking on the matter because he knows I'll kill you if it's true."
I narrow my eyes. She wants to kill me regardless of whether it's true or not. She knows Zaon is attracted to me, and she can't stand it.
"Lucky it isn't true. I believe Riley to be my mate." It's a lame excuse, but hopefully believable enough to get out of this situation alive.
Raven laughs abruptly, unconvinced.
"That lovesick idiot? Please, you don't expect me to believe that, do you?" She rests her hand on her stomach, her laugh shrill and grating.
She saw us at our wedding. She knows there is nothing tangible going on between us.
"Just leave me alone, okay? I have no problem with you." I take a wary step back, my heels sinking into the snow.
"Unfortunately, your presence has put so much into question." She braces her hands on her hips, looking at me with faux pity. "If my husband finds his mate, it puts our entire marriage into question."
I frown. "How?"
"He cannot be married to me and yet connected to his mate," she explains through gritted teeth. "His mate is his true equal, the true Luna of this pack."
I blow out a slow breath. Of course she is concerned about that. All she wants from Zaon is his power, and if I'm his mate, I'm a threat to that. She would rather retain her position than ever let him grasp true happiness.
She would rather retain her position than save an innocent little girl.
"You think I'm threatening your place here?"
"You're threatening my power. If there truly is a mate bond between you and my mate, I need to sever it."
Sever it? The thought makes me nauseous. The only way she can truly cement her power here is to kill Zaon's mate. That way, I'll never be given a chance to reach for the position of Luna here.
"Nothing is confirmed."
Her lips form a thin line. "I've been willing to kill you over far less."
I look back toward the manor again, wondering if my scream would carry far enough for someone to come to my rescue. Maybe I could fight back against Raven, but I stand no chance against her hulking friend and his wrathful stare.
"Why? I'm not your enemy." I don't trust her, but it's not my intention to oust her from her position. I only want to heal Iris.
"That's where you're wrong." She takes a step toward me. "Once I kill you, the bond will sever and it will weaken Zaon. It will be easy for me to end him after that."
My eyes widen, cold realization sinking into me.
She doesn't just want to kill me, she wants to kill him... She isn't satisfied being just Luna here — she wants to take the power all for herself.
"No, you can't do that—"
Raven looks coldly at her friend. "Vulk, kill her."
Vulk immediately launches himself at me. I turn, dashing up the slope, but I don't get far in my heels and tight dress. He grabs my arm, yanking me backward.
"No...no, stop!" I scream, hoping someone, somewhere overhears and gets me help as I'm dragged through the snow toward the fountain.
He presses my front against the concrete edge before bringing his fist down to smash the frozen surface. It cracks then breaks away, revealing churning water beneath.
I squirm and resist, but my strength is no match for him as his hand grabs a fistful of my hair at the back of my head before he plunges it into the water.
The shock of the icy water forces me to breathe in, sucking water into my lungs. I cough desperately, my throat tightening and my lungs immediately burning.
I'm not sure how long I'm submerged for, but it's not until dark spots plunge into my vision that I'm yanked back up.
I gasp in breath after breath, freezing water streaming down my face.
Raven sits on the ledge of the fountain, looking at me pityingly. "I would feel sorry for this, Ayah, but I have no other choice. There is nowhere for me to go. This is all I have. I won't lose it."
My vicious response is cut off as my head is dunked into the water again.
My lungs strain the longer I'm kept under. The more I struggle, the more my vision darkens, unconsciousness threatening to sweep me away.
No, I can't give up. I can't let that happen. If I do, I'm surely dead.
With the last of my energy, I drag my hand along the bottom of the fountain, searching desperately for anything.
To my left, my numb fingers securely wrap around what feels like rock. I draw it up, smashing it against Vulk's hand holding the back of my head. His grip loosens enough for me to surge up out of the water, twisting to strike his head with it.
He stumbles back, blood immediately flushing from the wound.
"Kill her you fool! Quickly!" Raven backs away, knowing that even in my weakened state, I'm angry enough to do serious damage to her if she gets close.
Vulk grabs my arm, tossing me to the ground. The snow cushions my fall, but before I can scramble back up, he straddles me, wrapping his hands around my throat.
I thrash about, feeling his thumbs pressing against my airway, cutting off any breath I try to drag inward.
Above me, he looks borderline possessed, a feral look in his eyes. He doesn't even know me, yet he is ready to take my life.
My fingers claw at his arms, trying to get him to give, but he won't budge. Blood drips from his temple, where I struck him, splattering onto my face.
My attention falls to Raven, who stands by, lips curling upward as she watches the life slowly drain from me.
Until suddenly, someone emerges from behind her, striking her hard against her head. She immediately collapses to the ground, knocked unconscious by...
Blake?
My friend steps forward, dressed in a fluffy black coat, a wild, panicked look in her eyes.
Vulk's grip on my loosens a touch in his surprise, his head turning to take her in. He barely gets his hands off me before she launches forward, pulling a knife out from beneath her coat.
My eyes squeeze shut, but I hear her stab him.
He yells out, thrown back off me. I scramble away through the snow, pulling in breath after breath, scanning to scene.
Blake stands over him, as he writhes in the snow, which is blooming with red.
Holy fuck.
"Blake, what have you done?" My voice comes out hoarsely, my throat tight and injured.
She looks stricken as she catches my gaze, hurrying over to me. "I had to...they were killing you."
"You saved me, but you've doomed yourself." Does she even realize what will happen when Raven wakes? She'll come for both of us.
I snatch the knife from her hand as I stand, swiftly slicing through my palm.
She grabs my wrist. "What are you doing?"
"Healing them," I hiss. Maybe Raven will be more willing to negotiate if I bring her back to full health.
Blake shoves me so hard I stumble away. "No! They'll kill you!"
"If she dies, there could be a war."
It seems unlikely, but Blake did hit her pretty hard. Her body is slumped at an unnatural angle, and blood pools around her head.
She looks over my shoulder, a grim look overcoming her. I turn to see what she is looking at, only to see Riley, with something heavy in his hand.
"I'm so sorry, Ayah," he murmurs, before he draws his arm back and hits me.
I'm immediately overtaken by darkness, falling headfirst into unconsciousness.
