Taken For The Alpha ✔️

Werewolf

18+ read at your discretion! My hands tremble by my sides. "Don't sleep with her..." He steps toward me, his eyes dark. "Why not?" "Whatever you were planning to do to her tonight, do it to me instead," I whisper.

Ayah has always been unremarkable in every way other than in the power she wields. Since she was little she has been able to heal even the most fatal of wounds. Because of this, her father has locked her away, keeping her powers safe from the outside world. That is, until a man appears below her balcony, giving her a glimpse into the freedom she could finally have. However, the moment she starts to trust him, he takes her captive, revealing his identity to be a powerful Alpha who needs her to heal his younger sister. But when the girl's illness becomes impossible for Ayah to heal, she is dragged on a journey beside the Alpha to find an amplifier. On the way she learns their connection goes deeper than their heated attraction, to a soul bond neither can deny.

I stare down at my plate, my stomach so tight I can't bear to eat another bite of the little lemon pastry on my plate.

I'm alone in this gaping dining hall, watching the rain lash wildly against the glass. The storm hasn't let up, the grounds beginning to flood all around, further imprisoning us here.

We won't be leaving until at least tomorrow, which means Zaon's proposition still stands, heavy and aching, begging for my attention.

As if I've been able to think about much else.

Tonight may be the night Zaon finally gives me what I want. He's finally going to allow himself this pleasure, and while I am terribly nervous, I also cannot bear waiting another moment. The anticipation is killing me, and it's only morning.

Footsteps raise my attention to the curved archway. Zaon strolls in, the picture of perfect indifference.

After he left me in the rain last night, I hung around outside to lick my wounds, sobering up pitifully. When I snuck in, he was asleep, so I bathed and crawled into bed beside him quietly. When morning broke, I snuck down here so we wouldn't be forced to endure an awkward encounter, the proposition hanging between us.

Now, it's about to ensue.

At least Nevan hasn't made an appearance yet.

"Good morning Ayah," he greets, rounding the table. He sounds light, unburdened, while I sulk, nursing my dignity and this diabolical hangover.

"Morning," I grumble, shoving enough bite of pastry in my mouth.

He seats himself at the other end of the table. I hate his air of confidence, the way he lounges in his chair like nothing has ever bothered him. I especially hate how tidy and put together he is in the morning, while I barely got a brush through my hair.

"Feeling okay?" The corners of his mouth lift knowingly.

"A little unwell," I tell him, reaching for my water. He watches as I drink every last drop, studying the movement, and the way I lick a stray droplet off my lower lip.

I catch the slightest ripple of tension shudder through his body.

"Nevan is nursing a hangover upstairs. It's just us for breakfast," he explains, reaching in front of him for a pitcher of fruit juice.

"So it is."

We eat in tense silence for a while. Neither of us are inclined to bring up the conversation we shared last night, clearly.

"Storm still isn't relenting," he brings up, gesturing to the window.

He's right. The storm is as vicious as it was yesterday, light struggling to carve through the dense, insidious clouds of roiling dark. Water crowds the flat spaces around the house, although the flooding has yet to encroach past the exterior walls.

"How long are we going to be stuck here?" I ask hopelessly.

His eyes darken as they meet mine from across the table. "Tonight, at least."

My thighs involuntarily press together beneath the table. Being here another night means his offer still stands, unacknowledged and yet remained well aware of.

"Feeling introspective lately?" He angles his head, the taunt embedded in every word.

"A little," I admit, looking down at my plate.

He knows exactly what plagues my mind. He knows he haunts my every thought since he offered to finally take me to bed tonight.

"Changed your mind at all about anything?"

"Not so far." I risk a glance upward. "You?"

"Nope."

I nod numbly. "Very good..."

So this is really happening. My stomach is a knotted mess of anxiety, to the point I could be sick. I'm excited, but equally nervous, and Zaon's taunts are only making the situation worse.

"I'm going to make the most of being here and speak to a few of Nevan's counterparts while he's unwell. I need to see what's going on around here," he says casually, leaning back in his chair.

"Good idea. I'll be around...not doing much." I wave my hand flippantly. I doubt I'll be able to concentrate on much.

His chair scrapes against the floor as he stands. I watch him stalk toward me, pausing right next to me

He reaches out, his thumb brushing along the curve of my cheekbone. "Take a breath, Ayah. You're flushed."

I swallow, my eyes lowering to my plate. I can hear the smile in his voice — he's enjoying tormenting me.

I don't oblige him in taking a breath until his footsteps vanish outside of the dining room. Then, I allow my body to deflate, slumping in the chair.

At any time, I can decide I don't want to do this, and he knows it. He will honor my decision, but for now, he's enjoying watching me squirm.

I quickly finish my breakfast, eating as much as I can handle with my anxiously churning stomach before I venture out into the hall.
