My hands tremble by my sides. "Don't sleep with her..." He steps toward me, his eyes dark. "Why not?" "Whatever you were planning to do to her tonight, do it to me instead," I whisper.

Ayah has always been unremarkable in every way other than in the power she wields. Since she was little she has been able to heal even the most fatal of wounds. Because of this, her father has locked her away, keeping her powers safe from the outside world. That is, until a man appears below her balcony, giving her a glimpse into the freedom she could finally have. However, the moment she starts to trust him, he takes her captive, revealing his identity to be a powerful Alpha who needs her to heal his younger sister. But when the girl's illness becomes impossible for Ayah to heal, she is dragged on a journey beside the Alpha to find an amplifier. On the way she learns their connection goes deeper than their heated attraction, to a soul bond neither can deny.

The festivities have well and truly started.
I scan the area while the man I just met fills a cup for me. I'm searching for Zaon amongst the crowd of writhing bodies, but he's nowhere to be seen.

Is he off in the forest, pressing some beautiful female to a tree while he ravishes her? The thought makes me nauseous.

Everyone else seems to be having so much more fun than me. I want to be dancing amongst the snow that has formed into a beige slush on the ground, but I can't seem to find the confidence to do it. Everyone else makes it seem so easy, so effortless.

"Here."

I turn to see the man who I think introduced himself as Logan earlier holding out my drink.

I take it, inspecting the contents. "Oh, thanks."

Maybe I shouldn't drink anymore. Maybe I should do as everyone told me and head back home. I would just have to hope nightmares of Zaon making out with other people don't chase me into sleep.

No, I can't admit defeat yet.

"New to this?" Logan asks as I take a few gulps from my drink.

"Is it obvious?" I wince.

He shrugs. "Kind of. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing."

I inspect him quietly. He's a vaguely handsome male with remarkably straight cheekbones and sharp eyes that pass over everyone within view. He has a bored countenance, though, like he isn't very interested in speaking to me.

"Honestly, it's not really my thing." I drink another mouthful, feeling the warming touch of alcohol smooth over my skin like loving hands. "I prefer my sexual relations to happen behind closed doors, not in the snow while people watch."

No one else has that thought, or perhaps they are too drunk to care. I can see a man fondling a woman's breasts right by the bonfire, her back pressed against his front so everyone can view her.

I wish I had even an ounce of that kind of confidence.

Logan is surveying me now. "Plenty of people seem to be enjoying it, clearly."

"Oh yes. Clearly." I hide my short laugh behind my hand. I don't know why this is suddenly so funny. Watching some people stumble into wells of shadows, only to emerge within someone's embrace is both fascinating and amusing.

"If you really want to figure out if you're interested in this, you should try it." His eyes bore into me over the rim of his cup.

Try it? The thought makes me giggle again. No, this isn't something I'm very interested in, and especially not with...
Well, anyone but him. Wherever he is.

I look down into my cup before taking another drink. This stuff is good.

"I have to be attracted to someone to want to do that," I say. My attention keeps drifting. One moment I'm watching people devour each other's faces, then I'm looking at this male whose name I can't remember suddenly. Once I blink, my attention is on finding Zaon amongst the crowd.

"There's someone for everyone here." He follows my gaze. "You seem to be searching for something."

"Nope, nothing. Just checking out the bonfire." I clear my throat.

Logan looks over my shoulder, and then points. When I turn to see what has captured his attention, his front is suddenly against my back.

"Look over there," he whispers in my ear. "He's eating her out."

He's right. A female leans against a tree, her skirt hiked up around her hips. A male is on his knees in front of her, his palms gripping her thighs while his head is between her legs.

I try to look away, my eyes feeling heavy. My skin is warm - no, hot - but not from desire as I watch the female's pleasure unfold. Distantly, I feel a little uncomfortable, but I'm stuck in a haze.

"Lucky her." I take another drink slowly, wetting my dry mouth.

She does seem to be enjoying it. Distantly, I feel my own want for something similar simmering in the depths of my stomach. I'm not inspired by this pair, but the feeling persists nonetheless.

"Lucky him, too." Logan's hands rest on my hips. "That could be you, if you want it to be. All you have to do is follow me."

I spin, a wave of dizziness nearly sending me back a step. He tries to correct my stance before my ass ends up in the snow, but I brush him off.

"No, sorry. I'm actually not feeling very well," I admit. The earth seems to be trembling, or maybe that's the edges of my vision. My skin is burning beneath my coat, tempting me to tear it off for some relief.

His expression doesn't change. "Something wrong?"

"I'm having an out of body experience." My throat feels dry, no matter how much I swallow. I must be drunk, or drugged.

But if I'm drugged, when did that happen? I feel as though I watched Logan approach the wine fountain, filling a glass for me while I watched.

I must just be pitifully drunk.

"It's probably the wine. Let me walk you home," he offers, veering toward the overly tread path turning to mush nearby.

The walk back up to the manor is long, dark and entirely alone. I'm already unnerved that Logan knows I live up there, and although my mind feels fuzzy, I know not to trust him blindly.

"I'm going to stay. Have a good rest of your night," I say, already retreating a few steps.

Mercifully, he doesn't follow as I stalk deeper into the crowd.

I run into a few people, unable to keep my gait straight. Some shoot me seething glares while others are too drunk themselves to care. Some even try to pull me into a dance as music rears swiftly up into an off-kilter beat around us.

Where is the music coming from anyway? Why do I suddenly want to join the mirth around me and dance?

More importantly, where is Zaon?

I can hardly see through dancing bodies. They are like a sea around me that I wade through, their heat only increasing mine.

A hand suddenly wraps around my arm, nails biting into my skin before I'm yanked to the edge of the crowd. Raven stands before me, her pale hair ethereal under the moonlight, having been wound into an intricate updo. She truly looks like a Luna, except for the bitter way she looks upon me.

"Get out of my way, Raven." I try to shove past her, but she swerves into my path with agile grace.

"Having fun?" She purrs, the bitterness vanishing in favour of an uncanny smile.

"I am." Kind of.

"Something wrong? You're bright red." Her smile is feline, assessing my face.

She's right, I do feel warm all over. "The fire is hot."

If she thinks I'm drunk, she'll toy with me. I know there are guards watching us, so she won't physically hurt me here. I just need to get past her without antagonizing her.

"Are your sensibilities ruffled? I'm personally on my way to a foursome if you want to learn something new about pleasure." She reaches out to touch my hair, running her fingers through the ends.

I wave her off, nausea rolling through my stomach. "I'll take a pass."

I don't think Raven actually wants me to have sex with her and whatever poor souls she pulled together. She wants to unnerve me, to make me see how out of my depth I am here.

Although, as time passes, I am beginning to feel more and more comfortable amidst the dancing bodies.

"Not looking for my husband, are you?" She raises a brow, a sharp sting to every accusatory word.

I open my mouth, then promptly close it. I don't know, was I? He's definitely been on my mind, but so are a lot of things. The problem with finding Zaon is that I'll likely end up seeing whatever beautiful female he has allowed to drape over himself.

"I'm trying to avoid him, actually." I rub my arm, feeling a spot of prickles sprout up beneath my coat from my hand. Everything about me feels off.

Raven's face morphs, shifting from expression to expression like water disturbed by a stone. Now, she looks wrathful.

"Stay away from him tonight." She lurks closer. "Go have your own fun, unless you want to see him balls deep in some woman far prettier than you."

I bristle. "He would do that?"

"Why wouldn't he? He's an Alpha." She sighs, like I'm not understanding her. "Women here spread their legs for him without...why are you laughing?"

My hand is over my mouth, a strange sound bubbling from my throat. I'm laughing, and I have no idea why. This conversation isn't even that funny, although Raven's attempt to frighten me kind of is.

"I don't know," I giggle.

A storm of emotion rolls over her brow. "This isn't funny."

"I feel really good," I admit, throwing my hands up hopelessly. "I think I want someone to finger me. Oops! Why did I say that!"

Her smile turns feline, her anger disappearing as quickly as it came. I'm not even sure what I'm saying anymore, I just know that there is heat pressing into my entire body, and it is especially concentrated between my legs.

"There's plenty of willing people here for you to play around with. Find a loner, or join a group." She gestures around the crowd.

I shrug simply, not really interested in that proposition. "I'm going to go dance."

My attempt to brush past her is thwarted as she grabs my arm, her nails digging into my flesh. It almost hurts, but I think I'm too drunk to notice.

"Stay away from Zaon tonight, or-"

"Or you'll kill me?" I shrug, entirely unbothered suddenly. "Bye Raven!"

I continue walking on, feeling her stare against my back. It would be enough to cripple me if I weren't drunk. In fact, I feel too good to care about what the ramifications might be of annoying her.

I stumble around for a while, getting shoved away by people dancing. I'm trying to make sense of my surroundings, but everything is an unstable blur.

Until I see him.

He sits on a high-backed chair that almost looks like a throne. It's made of sticks and wood, like the bonfire before it was lit. He lounges on it casually, utterly shirtless with red, violet and blue paint splattered about his bare skin.

I pause to stare at him, transfixed.

Pretty females in loose dresses, despite the cold, dance around him, their hands covered in paint. Zaon watches them with vague interest, although even I can see he's bored.

His gaze shifts through the crowd, where it lands on me. I suck in a breath at his sudden attention, and the way his eyes immediately darken.

I don't know why I care so much about what he thinks. I'm not here for him, I'm here to have fun.

I look around the swarm of bodies dancing around me. When my gaze clashes with a male a few feet away from me, I approach him.

"Hey, wanna dance?" I ask, my voice slurring a little at the edges.

His face contorts with repulsion. "No. Get lost."

"Alright, grumpy..." I mutter, turning away.

There is another male dancing alone next to him. If one doesn't want me, I'll find one that does until I can dance Zaon out of my head.

I approach him. "Dance?"

He's decently attractive, although that's not my primary focus. His face has paint on it, forming flowing patterns that sweep over the soft lines of his face. I take in his half naked form, appreciating the hard muscles of his body.

Yeah, he'll do just fine.

He grins down at me. "Absolutely, beautiful. Get over here."

He sweeps me into his arms, spinning me around. I'm already dizzy, colors blurring in my vision. When he rights me, tugging me close against him, it takes a while for my vision to steady.

We dance for a while, although there is no rhythm to it. He has a vice-like grip on me, his hands traveling all over me. I think this is fun...he smells like sweat and keeps dragging his mouth down my neck without actually kissing me.

"You kind of suck at dancing." I laugh a little under my breath.

"It's not about dancing tonight. I want to feel your body." He smooths his hand up my waist then down to my hips, pulling them into him.

I shudder. This doesn't feel right.

I'm about to pull away when my attention drifts over to where Zaon sits. He's leaning forward now, staring at me. He's completely ignoring the girls who dance around him, some even touching him, dragging their hands through his hair and over his shoulders.

Zaon looks anything but amused. His eyes bore into my skin, the weight of his attention heavy, almost. His expression is dark and unreadable, making me shiver.

I turn back to the male attempting to grind against me. "Kiss me."

"Say no more." His hand presses into the back of my neck, pulling me close until our mouths meet.

His tongue immediately invades my mouth. It takes every ounce of self-control not to yank away. Regardless of my repulsion, I let him kiss me, his hands shifting all over my face then down my body.

I pull back an inch. "You're a miserable kisser."

"You're a judgy little thing, aren't you?" He taps my nose with his finger, like I'm a child he's making fun of.

Okay, I'm officially done with this.

As I disentangle from his body, I turn right into Zaon. He's wearing a bitter smile on his face that doesn't feel like a smile at all.

"Having fun, Ayah?"

"Uh huh. Lots of fun." I grab the male I was just kissing, yanking him close next to me. "So much fun. Meet my friend here...whatever his name is."

He holds his hand out. "Hello Alpha. My name is—"

Zaon ignores him, looking at me. "Are you drunk?"

I shrug. "It's a party isn't it?"

"It's time for a breath." He holds his hand out. "Come with me."

"No. I want to stay here and make out with another stranger." The male beside me raises his brows expectantly, a goofy grin on his face. "Not this one because he's not very good."

Zaon sighs, his patience waning.

All of a sudden, he's grabbing me, lifting me over his shoulder. I yelp, the world turning upside down. His arm bands around the back of my thighs, carrying me through the crowd. I can hear a few people laughing, but from this angle, they can't see the scowls I direct at them.

"Hey! Put me down!"

"You've proven your point," he mutters. All I can see is the snow on the ground and the blur of people continuing to dance as Zaon leads me away from them.

"My point? I'm having fun!"

"You've drunk too much. You need a breath and to sober up before you make a mistake."
The world spins again as I'm set down. I grab onto his shoulder for balance, blinking a few times until my vision steadies. He's dropped me at the edge of the woods, away from the crowd.

"Go back to what you're doing," I hiss. "I'm perfectly fine on my own."

"Not until I'm satisfied you can look after yourself." He angles his head, looking over me. I quickly correct my clothing, which has been rumpled by the male who was kissing me.

He's not going to ruin this for me. No one will want to dance with me if I have their Alpha watching my every move.

I fold my arms over my chest. "I'm assuming you've had sex with what, eight girls by now?"

His brows raise. "I have stamina, but that much in less than two hours is a bit ridiculous, don't you think?"

"Fine...three."

He sighs, rubbing his jaw. I'm not sure what he's so stressed about.

"I'm not sleeping with anyone tonight. I'm monitoring my pack members and celebrating."

"I don't care. You think I care?" I shake my head, looking away. "I just think it's unfair that you're so good with your mouth. It should be criminal, quite frankly."

My eyes widen. So am I saying everything that is coming to my mind? I want to slap my hand over my mouth and keep it there before I embarrass myself further.

"Have you been drugged?" His eyes trace over my face.

"I had some wine. That is all." I wave my hand dismissively. "Dance with me."

He looks uncertain. "I should take you home."

"Not without one dance. Please. This is the most fun I've had like...ever. Please." At least I will have more fun once I'm dancing with him. He's the one I've been drawn to all night.

He shifts from foot to foot, indecision playing out on his face.

"Fine, one dance," he finally relents.

I grab his hand, grinning. This night isn't over.
