Taken For The Alpha ✔️
*18+ read at your discretion!* My hands tremble by my sides. "Don't sleep with her..." He steps toward me, his eyes dark. "Why not?" "Whatever you were planning to do to her tonight, do it to me instead," I whisper.
Ayah has always been unremarkable in every way other than in the power she wields. Since she was little she has been able to heal even the most fatal of wounds. Because of this, her father has locked her away, keeping her powers safe from the outside world. That is, until a man appears below her balcony, giving her a glimpse into the freedom she could finally have. However, the moment she starts to trust him, he takes her captive, revealing his identity to be a powerful Alpha who needs her to heal his younger sister. But when the girl's illness becomes impossible for Ayah to heal, she is dragged on a journey beside the Alpha to find an amplifier. On the way she learns their connection goes deeper than their heated attraction, to a soul bond neither can deny.

It doesn't take us long to make it into the valley and to the town.
It's a small, unassuming town that welcomes us into its cobbled Main Street. Homes are dotted around, with sturdy wooden exteriors and roofs heaped with thick layers of snow.
My eyes trace every inch of this town as we clatter further inward. In the distance, even taller mountains spiral upward, milky clouds hugging the tops.
People don't spare me a glance as they go about their day. I stare at all of them, drinking in their expressions, their unique features and varied dialect. I've never encountered so many different people at once, and my mind is spiralling.
Blake continues ahead, unaware of my bewilderment.
I want to explore the town, to meet all these unassuming people. I want to explore the scattering of trees dotting the valley, clumping together in a small woods further down.
Blake points out her house once we've crossed through town. It's a small, tired cabin that I happily welcome the sight of.
We tether our horses to a post at the front of the house before kicking the snow off our boots at the door.
The thrill of this adventure has eaten away at my nerves. I'm deliriously happy to be out, amongst the snow, under the midday sun.
And knowing Zaon would lose his mind if he knew what I was doing makes this so much sweeter.
"This is such a good thing you're doing. You're saving my family." Blake smiles at me warmly, her cheeks and nose tinted pink from the cold.
"I don't mind, really," I insist.
After slipping off our boots, we step into her house.
I'm immediately welcomed into a small living space. It's messy, miscellaneous belongings slumped everywhere, taking up space on every surface.
This looks lived in, like a home. For my entire life, my home was my own room. Looking at a place like this puts my isolation into perspective, making my stomach turn uneasily.
Suddenly, a tall figure stalks into the room, wearing a scowl.
"Blake, you're not supposed to be home." His blue eyes shift from her to me. "Who are you?"
I balk at his tone, my thoughts stumbling over each other. It's moments like these that I remember how unsocialized I am. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to act.
The man is clearly related to Blake. They share the same blue eyes that are slightly too large for their faces. His hair is dark brown and wavy, swept back by his hand, and his skin is dusted with similar freckles.
What I'm transfixed by, is the heat of his anger. It's enough to melt the snow off the eaves.
"This is the girl, Riley. Alpha Zaon's obsession." Blake links her arm through mine, tugging me close against her.
I give her a long look. Zaon's obsession. I don't think like that characterization in the slightest.
"This is Ayah?" Riley points at me, taking a moment to look over me with renewed interest. I resist the urge to shift on my feet.
They both know of me. It seems my reputation has met more people than myself.
"Yes, and she agreed to heal mother for us!" Blake announces excitedly, giving my arm a little shake.
Riley's sharp features harden, an inexplicable rage dancing in the sapphire blue of his eyes.
"You need to leave," he commands lowly, pushing past me.
Blake pulls me out of his path before his shoulder can slam into mine. He looks out the window nearest to the door, pulling the curtain all the way back to check outside. He thinks we've been followed.
"I came all this way-"
"Get her out of here, Blake," he demands coldly, yanking the curtains shut before moving onto the next window. "How could you be so stupid!"
"I'm not being stupid. This is a good thing," she insists desperately, letting go of my arm so she can follow her brother around the room as he closes all the curtains.
He turns and my heart stutters under his scrutiny. "Has Zaon given you permission to be here?"
I steel myself. "Does it matter?"
"Of course he hasn't." He throws his hands up before glaring at a flustered Blake. "Fuck, he's going to have our heads."
"He won't find you. I won't tell him," I assure him uneasily.
I'll sneak back in later, just the way I left, and he'll be none the wiser. I'm sure the guards won't bother to check on me as the day wanes on.
"Of course he'll find out. He'll know, and as one of his guards, I'll be hanged, followed by Blake." He gestures at his sister, who drops her gaze.
I fidget with the hem of my shirt. Blake skipped the part where she told me about her brother's job position. Right now, he should be dragging me right to Zaon's feet.
"It's not like we're smuggling her to freedom." Blake approaches her brother with slow, cautious steps, like he's an injured animal. "Riley, she's here to save our mother."
He pauses, the anger draining from his expression in a moment.
"Save..."
"Heal. She can heal her." Blake's tone is light and drenched in hope. It translates to her brother's gaze, which warms with the idea.
His eyes shift to me, and I nod affirmatively. Despite myself, excitement is starting to bubble in my chest. I could really do something good, something meaningful for this family.
"Will it hinder you from healing Miss Iris?" He asks breathlessly.
I shake my head. "No. As long as it's not the same disease she has, it should be quite simple."
Riley looks at his sister, then me, and back again. Blake's heels bump against the floor over and over as she waits anxiously for her older brother to make his decision.
"You'll go home right after?"
"I'll need to rest for a moment. It saps my energy," I tell him, rubbing the back of my neck, which is clammy from the exertion of the horse ride.
I don't want to hang around too long and put them at risk, but getting back onto a horse after healing someone would be too difficult to manage. I would likely slip off halfway up the mountain and get lost in a mound of snow.
"Of course it does." Blake tugs on the sleeve of Riley's shirt, her desperation apparent. "Come on Ri, this is worth the risk."
He studies me again, silently weighing his options.
"Fine. But you must be quick."
I follow the siblings down a short hallway and into an adjoining room. It's small and square, with a wide bed in the center. I'm careful when treading around it, wary of the thick frame and the risk of stubbing my toe.
Inside the bed, a woman lies prone, her eyes closed, a patchwork quilt pulled up to her chin.
I inspect her quietly. Her skin is sunken and sallow, dark violet veins tracing along her eyelids. Her lips are dry and pale, and there's a yellow hue to her face.
